I currently have a Moen Chateau that is hard to turn off. Plumber in waiting. I was hoping I could replace the push-pull with a rotate-type faucet... is this possible without replacing the valve? Is a standard Moen valve just standard? or are they different?

Specifically looking at this one...

Thanks! Just hate to spend the money to replace the cartridge if I can get a new faucet...

Moen will send you a new cartridge for free if you call them. NOw, getting the old one out is sometimes a major pain...do a search here and you'll see. Sometimes it pops out easily. You may be able to get different trim, but I don't think you'll get a different lever action type valve.

If the shower valve is really old, it may be time to update it. Codes have changes, and all new valves must have either pressure balanced or thermostatically controlled anti-scald features that yours may not have. That can't be updated by a new cartridge...

That faucet works the same way yours does. You turn it for hot/cold and pull it out for on/off.

Thanks so much. I ended up speaking with a plumber about it, and am going to have him replace the cartridge for now. An update is due in the future I am sure, but am hoping to keep costs down for now until we are ready for a complete remodel. After doing a few searches online, I discovered the cartridge can be problematic to remove, so am just going to let him have a go at this one.

Thanks again
