TruSlate roof??

We recently bought a house in Edmonton, Alberta which has a 18 year old cedar shake roof that needs to be replaced. We are looking into longer lasting materials for our climate which can be very dry and cold, not to mention a product that will tolerate a large amount of snow. We don't want to have to reinforce the roof to hold a heavy product. Has anyone had any experience with a TruSlate roof? It is supposed to be light weight and long lasting (with a 75 year warranty), not to mention beautiful. As of yet, it has not been done in our city. Thanks for any advice!

I would seriously consider an aluminum, kynar coated shake-look metal roof. Very light, very long life, acts as a radiant barrier to direct heat (both back to the sky in the summer and into the attic in the winter). It has an air channel beneath it, so ice dams are unlikely, and it should last well past your lifetime.
