I am getting ready to run a line to connect my household water supply to a greenhouse. I had buried about 100' of 1" black poly water supply line from the greenhouse and it terminates at one end of my homes insulated crawl space. I now need to run about 50' of 3/4 pipe through the crawl space and connect it to a copper cold water line. I am looking at a cheaper alternative to copper since this will be a seasonal (drained in the fall) COLD water supply. I do have plenty of 3/4 PVC pipe and connections laying around from an irrigation project last year and would like to use it. Is there any reason I shouldn't run PVC through the crawl space?? Anyone know of any possible code violations in Northern Virginia? Thanks.
PVC may only be used as a water supply line underground outside of the foundation. I would suggest CPVC (it's different from PVC) or, PEX tubing. Personally I'd go with PEX. http://www.watts.com/pro/_products.asp?catId=70 A 100' roll of 3/4" will go for about $45. and you can transition to the copper supply and PVC using Sharkbite couplings and threaded adapters. http://www.cashacme.com/prod_sharkbite_pushfit.php
