Hi, my house vibrates everytime the wind blows I have tracked it down to I think the vent stack behind the toilet. I dont think it is clogged I have run a hose down it and didnt hit any blockages. My washer also backs up once in a while I dont know it the two are related.

Thanks
Joey

I doubt very much that your stack is vibrating when the wind blows. Its probably something in the vacinity. I have never heard of a stack vibrating. I have heard expansion noises from the stack. (when hot water enters a section of pipe and the pipe expands rubbing on a wood joist or flooring.)

In what position is your washer in relation to the stack ie: basement, ground floor,etc...... and where does it drain.

the washer is at the other end of the house but everything intersects right around there. when it vibrates and make the noise, it sounds like someone blowing across a bottle thats what led me to the vent stack. There is nothing else in the wall close to it so i dont know of anything else it could be.

Yes, stacks can vibrate in the wind. Could be tricky to solve. You might try cutting the pipe at a slight angle at the top, with the high point in the direction of the prevailing wind.

Extending the vent might get it out of the air stream. There are limits as to how low it can go, but that might help, too. A screen over the top might break up the air stream and solve it too...not sure if that would be okay with the inspectors - it would have to be fairly coarse, or it might freeze up.

How about putting a vent cap on it, like a Zurn Z-193?
