Capping off a connection from gas meter

Hi -

A few months ago, I had a connection from my gas meter to my grill capped off.

Is it normal for the cap to look that rusted? Or should I call the plumber back to replace it?

As always, thanks for any advice

yes that is normal,try a little grey primer and you will be just fine.

That's a good question, I'm not sure what that is. It's a hard material, not flexible at all. Any ideas on what it could be?

It looks like that roofing material put mobil on home roofs.

nice... i usually use the rust-oleum industrial paint... i thought that would protect the steel enough, but maybe i should use the roofing stuff... just kidding!
