shower install

This is the first time I am attempting a shower pan install, I have put down the first sloped mortar bed but my results were less than perfect, the slope is good but the finish is less than smooth - should I start over or move ahead ?

Unless it is jagged so that it would puncture the membrane, you should be okay. If you are worried about it just use a filler to skim coat it even.

You don't want any birdbaths since the liner goes on it...you want any water that may get there to flow to the weepholes in the drain. Make sure to take extra pains to keep the weepholes clear when you put the setting layer down.
