So, I'm currently having my kitchen remodeled. The eletrician had been working all day with the wiring, back and fourth to the fuse box.
I get home after work and my water doesn't work. My contractor has his plumber look into it the next day. They pulled the pump out of the well and said the "wire on the bottom must have been severed because there was no power going to the bottom of the pump". He said they looked for the severed wire but couln't find it. They replaced it and everything is in working order. I know the well pump is not even close to the kitchen but is this just a coincident or could it have been something the electrician did? The pump has been working fine for the past 10 years (installed in 1998). Just happens to malfunction on the day the electrician re-wired the entire kitchen? Contractor slapped me with a $500 bill for the work his plumber did. Should I be suspect of this?

Personal belief: coincidences when they result in a bill are always questionable.

And it would be simple (ohmmeter) to see if the wires going down the well are OK without pulling anything out.

I would mark it up to "stuff happens" during remodels.
It could be coincidence, or it could have something to do with the other work being done, but either way, the work had to happen, and things happen. I've seen panels so mismarked over time, it just gets scary sometimes.
With remodel, you have to have the "get r done!" mode, or the stress will get to you.
I'm sure everyone out there on the job, was doing their best to leave as little a mark as possible so they could move on to the next waiting job.

If they replaced the pump, I would be leary of the small bill. To swap out a 1/2 - 1 hp pump, we get $1195.00. So how did the Plumber do this job for only $500.00?

Maybe they just replaced the bad wire. Now that I think of it, replacing the wire on a ten year old pump wouldn't have been doing you a favor either.
