I have a 1.5 StaRite on a shallow well pump. I say shallow well---because it looks like 2" pipe going into the ground. Is the pipe I see the only thing---sort of like a soda straw?

Let's try it another way: do most shallow well surface pumps operate into one pipe?

Yes and no. In your case, since you see no pipe sticking up above ground except the 2" pipe, I will assume you do not have a Pitless Adapter. With a Pitless Adapter you could have concentric piping where the suction pipe is inside the backpressure pipe which would be 2" on a two inch well.

OK. I'll pull the pump and see. It's one in which the suction is off an L fitting, so probably it's one pipe.
