I have a 3 inch copper waste line that goes directly in to the slab foundation from the second floor. i would like to remove everything above the slab and replace it with pvc. what is the best way to transition from the copper to pvc. Also is it okay to only run a 2 1/2 inch vent that will be 4 1/2 feet from the closet flange?

2 1/2" would be fine if you can find it! LOL

Seriously to answer your venting it depends on things like your local code and how everything else is vented. Many codes require at least one full size vent through the roof... Consult your local inspector.

okay

thank you for the help i said 2 1/2 inch when i should have said 2 inch but if i need to stay with 3" all the way up my problem is that the copper is 3 1/8 O.D. and pvc is 3 1/2 O.D. so it will not fit in the framing

Maybe run two lines side by side? The connector you want to use is a no hub or banded coupler. The regular Fernco is a neoprene sleeve with stainless steel clamps on each end. They can not be used above ground because the do not hold the pipes ridge. The banded coupler has a steel band over the entire sleeve.
