Tub drain question:

Looking for opinions. Should I use silicone or plumbers putty to seal between the tub and the drain strainer piece?

Roll a roll of plumber's putty in your hands about the size of a pencil, wrap it around the depression around the tub drain hole, tighten the drain lip down on it, and wipe away the excess putty (save it back into the can). The putty will have more "give" to it to remain sealed longer IMHO, and it will be much easier to remove the drain again when you need to.
If you caulk it, you will likely have to destroy the drain to remove it in the future.
Good Luck!

I like silicon caulk but there's nothing wrong with plumber's putty except on marble fixtures. It's all personal preference.

For acryilic tubs use silicone and for other tubs use putty

The putty tends to turn the acrylic around the drain a yellowish color
