Hi All,
Im new here and I hope I can get some help from you knowlegdable guys. I've lived in my house since 1976, in 1985 my well pump went out. I called the well guys and they had to dig to find the well, when it was uncovered the pump only had a rubber hose on it, they poured 50 gals of acid down the well and waited 24 hrs hopeing the acid would help break the pump free, it did'nt work, when they pulled on the rubber hose it broke, and I had to get a new well drilled. At 50 ft they were pumping 50 gals per min, they drilled the well to a depth of 150ft, and told me that the well would never go dry, they also used a brass pump with a smaller diameter than the steel caseing, Im not sure about this, but I think they used PCP pipe for the pump. It's been 22 yrs since then and no problems until today when I turned the water on and nothing, no water. The holding tank is empty, the guage is on 0. There is a circute breaker for the well, and it has two 30 amp fuses which are good, not blown. There is also a metal box attached to the wall with wires going into, and out of it, and a gray box that the guage on the holding tank is attached to, it is attached via wires to the metal box on the wall. Im hoping that something is wrong with one of those boxes, but if it's the pump, my real worrie is that they won't be able to get it out, and I'll need to drill a new well just like I had to in 1985. My question to you guys is what are the chances of them not being able to get that pump out, it's been down there for 22 yrs? Any other imput will be grately appriciated.

Given your past experience I can understand your worry. The good news is that getting a pump stuck in the casing does not happen most of the time.

Instead of worrying about it call in a pro to diagnose it. If they don't seem professional in their diagnosis and demeanor, call in a different company for a second opinion. After 22 years replacing the pump, drop pipe, & tank would be a good investment assuming quality products and material are installed.

I can't believe these guys poured 50 gallons of acid down your well. What were they thinking?

If your other pump which didn't last more than 9 years got stuck, I would think the 22 year old one has a good chance of being stuck as well. They really hosed you by putting in PVC instead of Galvanized pipe knowing they couldn't get the last one out. At least with Galvanized you would have had a far greater chance of removing the pump. With PVC, even SCH 80 it's doubtful.

I guess since nobody else has asked...

What size well are we talking about?

Rubber hose down the first well? What about electric wires, was this a submersible pump?

Brass pump down the second well?
