Washing Machine sucking traps dry

For years, my washing machine has been sucking the traps dry in the bath in the basement. Sometimes it even sucks the upstairs bath dry. It seems to be properly vented. It looks like 2" vent goes to attic and then joins another vent and goes to 3" and out the roof. It does not appear to be clogged and the cap is removed. Any suggestions? Could I add another vent? Where in the line would I need to put it?

Without being on-site there is little that could be said about venting. A bunch of pictures posted might be a start.

You have to make sure that each p-trap has it's own vent.
To prevent the tub from being siphoned dry, that would need a vent, the lav would need a vent, and the toilet would need a vent.

And of course, the washer needs a vent too, or that trap will siphon too.

Maybe a stupid question but your washing machine drains into a washing machine box, not hard connected right?

Hey looky there... I just got a picture given to me.

Sometimes too it can get complicated and hard to see how it works like when a sink wet vents a toilet. Fitting use is also critical. Put a wye and 45 where a sani tee should be and it doesn't work right. Thats why I say on site diagnosis is best although we might see something in pictures.

Thanks for the help

Thanks for all the help. The house is only 7 years old, so I assume for the most part it is plumbed correctly. The Washing machine does drain into a washer box (not a hard connection). Terry's drawing was very informative. I now understand that every pee trap must be vented. My washer sucks the bath and two tolites dry. I guess maybe the whole bath vent is clogged somehow. Thanks for all the post. matt

If this is a seasonal thing it may be related to frost closure of a vent. I don't know if you live in the frozen north but that is a possibility. It is also a possibility that the vent is blocked by construction debris. I have seen the telltale signs of a bored roofers lunch break inside of a vent. "lets see how many little pieces of shingle can I throw down the vent."

It is plastic pvc. Do you think I would break it running a snake down it? It is not seasonal. One other think. The vent for the washer and the downstairs bath that goes dry are connected in the attic. Could this cause it?
