Leak under Kitchen Sink

Please help. I am trying to save some headaches by just understanding what could be wrong under my sink. I have not been happy since having it replaced 3 years ago with new granite countertops. The installation was poor, but didn't have any leaks until now. The stainless steel 50/50 large/deep sink was never close enough to the granite in my opinion. I have two questions.
1. Is there any way to get the sink up higher and attach it to the granite without damaging the stone? Is there a better way to seal the gap than just the clear/now molded (silicone) I guess that they put around the inside upper edge of the sink?

2. Now that I have a leak (small), should I have the whole thing redone? It's a small leak at the base of the sink. I believe it is around the threads at the base of the drain, but may also be in the PVC around the two screw on collars that are just below. Please, any suggestions would be great. I am not too handy with plumbing issues and don't want to break anything any worse than it already is!

Thanks,
Tracy

Well, some pictures would help.

But as far as your pipe leak, it sounds like a slip joint connection. You could try to just tighten that nut a little more; not crazy tight, because if a little "tweak" doesn't stop the leak, then the next step is to take it apart and replace the washers.

As far as the install to sink, sounds like it wasn't done right, and depending on how they did it, fixing it at this point may require removing it totally first. Again, a picture from underneath would help

Expoxy should be the core product holding the sink to the granite, the silicone was the filler.

Cutting out/removing the silicone is quite a chore....I would reinstall a 100% aquarium grade silicone back in its place or buy a high grade caulk in color that best matches the granite for the transition.

The leaks involve removing the nuts, replacing the top hats and ferrules as they get hard as a rock along with the plastic nuts. They lose their soft pliability over time and that is what makes them leak.

I'd call a plumber as this project might take a day.

Trying to get a photo loaded, but some more info

I have tried to load a photo, but this site will not accept them as large as I have them. Will try later. I do have a feeling that the undermount sink is not installed properly and could be causing the issues also. It is "falling" a bit and is not secured all the way around with the clips. I think that when the granite was installed that the hole was cut too close to the front and didn't allow the space needed for the clips. If this is the case, is there any way to secure the sink so that it will not put pressure on the plumbing?

Looks and sounds hard to me. I am just a girl looking to not get totally ripped off. I still have a lot of trouble understanding the difference between silicone, epoxy and other plumbing putty etc that is out there to buy...what is the best!?

Thanks for your help!!!
