My Sears watersoftener went out a while ago.
I have been thinking of buildng my own softener system.

I did a quality check for my water with a Culligan test kit:

the free chlorine and total chlorine is 0 ppm
the ph is 9
the hardness is 15 grains (250 ppm)
nitrate nitrogen and nitrite nitrogen is 0 ppm
iron showed in between 1 and 3 ppm so I would say 2ppm

what can the experts say about the quality of my water, thanks!!!

Ron

You really need a water softener that can handle 3 ppm of iron and the hardness. It should have a special distributor tube and resin. And a Clack WS-1 control valve.

The softener has to be sized correctly for the family size, water quality and the SFR (service flow rate) the house requires.
