P-trap code?

In order to meet code for a p-trap, how long can the horizontal run be after the trap before entering the waste/vent stack?

Can there be any slope downwards in the horizontal run at all between the trap and the waste/vent stack?

The IPC code says as long as with the required slope the weir where the trap floods can not be higher than the top of the opening where the pipe hits the stack. For a 2" pvc pipe that is 6' I think.

Not sure exactly what the new IPC rule about no wet vents between floors would do to that?

UPC and others are different.

No wet vents between floors has always been the standard, but it has nothing to do with the length of a trap arm.

His question was how long can he run after the trap from a vent. If it is a pipe that has water coming from a second floor, would that not be a wet vent and would that not make the rule come into play?

Wet venting between floors was not in the 2003 IRC code, it is in the 2006 so to us it is new, standard or not and many did it because they could get away with it, not in code book.

we need more information. Are we talking about a 1 1/4" trap or a 4" trap? where are you and what code do you have to follow?

The only question he asked is the distance from the trap to the vent pipe connection. That pipe can be any configuration, even a wet vent between floors if it was allowed, because it has nothing to do with the question. If the trap drain pipe is going between floors, then it could only do so if it were an "S" trap and that is always illegal in the U.S.A.
