Hi!

How much space/clearance between ABS drain pipe (master bathroom shower drain) and a can light in the kitchen below which is next to the ABS pipe?

Thanks,
Ben

Usually recessed lighting needs atleast 2-3 inches spacing from combustibles. The manufacturer's instructions will clarify this. The safest bet would be to use an insulation rated housing (it sounds like you might be already) and put some insulation between the housing and the ABS.

So, when you say 2-3 inches from combustibles does that mean ABS piping is combustible? BTW- It's an insulated can.

Thanks,
Ben

With ABS it is ok up to about 130-140 F. after that it starts to get soft and is liquid at about 230-240 F.

I have no idea what temp can lights can get up to.

Their processing temp is higher than the melting temp.

If his can lights get to the ABS flash point his ABS will be the last thing he needs to worry about.
