So I need to replace a centerset bathroom faucet. Since the only one I like are the single hole configurations, I decided to so some research as I'm thinking - there must be some universal cover for these types of installations....(and I'm not talking the individual covers over each hole)

We'll I found them.... Now, are they universal? meaning they will work with any single hole faucet? I seem to see some faucets come with them, and others do not.. just wondering if there are differences in thickness that I need to worry about.

Any help is appreciated.

Your best bet is to find a manufacturer you like that has an adapter plate that is made to match. You're likely to get decent, or at least, matching quality of the finish.

I'll bet your situation is fairly common; as Jim suggested, call the manufacturer and see what they've got to offer.

I had the opposite problem with a Moen kitchen faucet. It came with an escutcheon plate that covered all 3 holes, but I wanted to use one of the 2 outside holes for an air switch for the disposer. It turns out this particular faucet came in 2 flavors, so they shipped me the parts I needed to mount the sprayer in a hole, rather than in their wide plate, and the air switch went in the other hole nicely.
