Here is a nice vessel lav mounted on a wood plank.
It's a nice update for a Seattle Condo.

Have you ever used lift and turn drains instead of grid drains? I like Kohler's K-7710 because it drains better then the standard lift and turns.

Not yet, but I'm sure open to it.
Grid drains are pretty slow.
The capillary action make the water stick together and bunch up around the drain.

Kohler even has a lift and turn for non-overflow bowls. (K-7725). They all come in a variety of finishes. Speaking of non-overflow bowls, what do you do when you have a faucet pop-up assembly designed for an overflow sink? Kohler was making a metal piece which could be used with a second washer to fill the void. I haven't found a source for just that piece, but I'm still looking. I may just bite the bullet and have some made.

If you really want to do it, then a short piece of 1 1/2" copper will work as a spacer.

It's not a question of wanting to do it. An 1-1/4" PVC coupling cut in half will also do it. However, a piece designed to do the job is always preferable to a job fabricated, make do solution, imho.
