Had a plumber quote me 1600 for a new 50 gallon bridge something or other power vent-(current heater richmond power vent ) this includes new tank, install, haul away and any changes with the lines/gas etc. Husband is freaked that this is too high but I think it seems rather reasonable especially considering he isn't home handy man.

Thats about the norm.
I know some companies that charge 1800, others go lower.
Be sure he'll warrantly his labor for a year if he's providing the heater.
You might have a 6 year MFG warranty, but that doesn't cover labor...that price should include a year for labor in the event anything small goes wrong.

heater

Call more than one company. If they all are in that range, then it makes no difference whether it is higher or lower than we would charge, because we are not coming there to install it.

Is it a replacement or a new installation. That should make a big difference in the cost.

Actually, good point.
There's additional work for changing from draft type venting to powervented which can have completely different estimates depending on vent location/distance.

It's a replacement-- sorry it's a bradford white 50 gallon power vent installed for 1600 total--replacing our courrent 40 gallon richmond power vent water heater. Repairman said the electronics were going bad and that it makes more sense to just replace the whole unit instead of trying to fix it--bummer because the heater is only 4 yrs old.

O. K. You Do What You Want To Do. I Am Sure You Change Out Many
Water Heaters Because You Do Not Know Or Care To Service Them???

I Am Sorry I Forget That Most Plumbers Don't Know How To Work

On Water Heaters If It Needs More Then Just A Thermacouple ! !

"Dr." MAC is correct, thats why I stated get a second opinion.
I get a heat call, turns out to be a dead circulator, I don't sell 'em a new boiler.

Mostly they are dead Ihave 10 yr old w/h was 3yrs old when Ireplaced it.
Still working fine.New W/H and new codes make it neccesary to charge that much.

get a seconnd opinion

It really depends on where you live .....

In the midwest you should be able to get
a 50 gallon power vent Brad white for
somewhere around $1250....with a 6
year tank warranty

for a ten year unit figure $1500.00

the reason plumbers do not want to mess with
power vent water heaters is getting parts for an
older unit

sometimes its almost impossible to find parts
and when you
give them the bill they go nuts...........

would you be happy with a bill for 600 bucks to repair a
9 year old water heater???
