Anyone ever heard of or used Kaspersky Anti Virus? Claims to be better and faster than Norton or Macafee. I went out on a limb and installed it. Seems OK. I guess time will tell!

I would say anything is better and faster than the big names. I have used almost every brand and I have only found 1 that is any good. Try it and see for your self http://www.free-av.com/
Oh and get the free one.

This could be a dumb question, but did you goto add-remove programs. That will give you a list of programs that are installed on your system. If you can't remove it there then you are in trouble.
I would try as a last resort: Install a real antivirus that doesn't have a time limit http://www.free-av.com/
I have never had any problems with this and aslong as you keep it upto date you will be fine.

If it is starting up when the wintrash starts I would go into the starts menu>run program> type msconfig and select the tab that says startup and find it and uncheck it. That way it does not run when you start your system. If you install any other anti virus the new anti virus will trash your old anti virus as soon as you scan your system. That is why you can't run 2 at once (just so you know).
I would also check your programs folder in c: drive and find its folder you might find the uninstall file.
This is one of the many reasons why LINUX is BETTER.
40,000 WIN viruses in 2007. If you or any one else is not running any security you will be infected or taken over in 15sec or less.
Oh and I hope you have a happy holiday and a great new year.

I have used AVG in the past with win98-ME did not like it then and never gave it another chance.
I do run ZoneAlarm it is one of the best out. It is very user friendly. It is also beginner friendly.

The reviews are in:) I am not one to say I have all the answers, but my computer has been running 4-5yrs with out problems. I also have a teen age kid with 3yrs of running. I also have many other people friends and family that run these items and they have not had problems for several years.
Well the best way to not have any need for the above items is to just switch Os's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_system from Wintrash to Linux

I would assume you are running winXP. I know sometimes removing a program in win then reinstalling it will solve some problems.
If you are not running winXP you could be hitting the wall everybody will hit Now on because Microtrash doesn't support anything older than XP and XP is going out in 2010. Time to pay up and upgrade.

AVG is an excellent program to use. I've been running it for years now with no issues. It's also free. Another wonderful program is ad-aware , it's free as well and will remove all spyware from your system.

Pat,can change win to linux?
LOL this might be interesting http://www.desktoplinux.com/articles/AT3293889858.html
My paim point is that finding a good program that does what it says it does and does it well. I like small simple programs. I don't like huge programs that say they do everything, but really can't do anything well.

If your looking to give linux a try and see what it is about I would try Ubuntu Linux. The user community is great for beginners. I would not suggest anything that I would not use or try. I would not tell any one to use anything that would mess up there systems.

I would go about removing anything you don't use.
I would scan your system with Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, an antivirus and install a good Firewall like ZoneAlarm.
You need to clean your system with spybot first. Once you clean it do a system defrag to reorganize your drive.<takes along time.
