Hi,
I recently found this forum while searching for information on code, fittings and geometry for a tight-space re-plumbing of DVW pipes in my basement after purchasing a new washing machine.
Several years ago in a minor basement remodel, a professional plumber had installed a washing-machine stand pipe without a vent, in a system that also drained the upstairs shower. The system "worked" but also stuck out from the wall >15" -- OK with our old washer, but not with our new high-efficiency model.
Coincidentally, a different (competent) plumber hired to replace leaking galvanized water lines in our basement noticed the lack of a vent on the standpipe, and the hokey 3-D solution to bringing several drains and vents together in a small space.
I decided to do the replumbing of the drains myself, as I am semi-retired, somewhat handy, and reasonably resourceful. I was dismayed to find that plumbing codes and guidelines are not as readily available on-line as design guidelines for other projects I have undertaken.
That's where this forum comes in. I have learned about what fittings to legally use; what geometry is possible for my tub-drain, stand-pipe, vent stack situation; and how to express some of the other issues I have encountered.
Thanks so much for sharing your questions and answers. I look forward to more learning here.
