Hi

Quick question...installing a toilet on the second floor...is it recommended to caulk between the finished floor and the underside of the flange? Seems this would prevent water from seeping down around the pipe and into the joist bays if there was ever a leak.

Thanks

More of a chance that the toilet will overflow than the wax seal gives out. Caulk the base of the toilet and around the entire perimeter of the floor to help prevent water from draining into the room below in case of toilet or bath overflow.

I think the original poster was asking about caulking under the closet flange.

I don't have an answer for that - just want to clarify.

I've never caulked under or around a flange, and I've never seen it done. That is why I gave that advice to the poster.
