I am adding on a few rooms to my house and would like some advice on the plumbing aspect. I am going to have to either go through the old cement foundation (not blocks) or through the 2X8 top plates to get to my existing plumbing. I am apprehensive about either. Which would be the best fix? Choosing the floor joist idea would require drilling through all of my joists between the shower and the wall wouldn't it? I'm just not sure on what the best fix would be. Thanks for any help.

More information would help, but I can tell you that cutting through floor joist for drains is not kosher. This sounds like a fairly major remodel project and you might well want to consider a professional plumber to do this. You can mess up lots of ways and end up paying more to straighten out the problems than just having it done properly to begin with.

Go through the concrete wall.
A core driller can cut a nice clean hole for the pipes to go through.

That would be much better than swiss cheesing your home.
