Hello, I hope someone can help me. I have a Jet Pump in my crawlspace. About every 4 - 6 weeks the hose that goes to (or from) the pump comes off. I shut off the power, go down into the crawlspace, and water has been sprayed everywhere. I then put the hose back on.

The end of the hose has a clamp on it that tightens as you turn it. I have seen this type of clamp on radiator hoses in cars.

Each time I turn the screw as tight as I can... to the point I can't turn it any more. But, over and over again, the hose comes off.

Any ideas, or assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Sandie

What kind of hose.

If it's blowing off, it must be the output of the pump.

Go buy new clamps, try a plumbing supply wholesale type store for quality hose clamps, buy 2.

Cut off 2" off the hose, put both clamps one, however opposite each other i.e. one adjustment nut on each side of the hose, tighten with a nut driver if you have one.

The clamps are not your problem. The fitting that the hose attaches to needs to be a barbed fitting so the hose doesn't slip off under pressure. Get yourself a barbed fitting and your problem is resolved.

I must have missed the part about it not being a barbed hose fitting. :(

Rancher & Sam... Thank you!!

Rancher & Sam,

Thank you both for taking your time to assist me!! I will pick up the barbed fitting tomorrow. I think I know the answer, but I'll ask to be sure. After I turn off the electricity, and disconnect the hose, I take the current piece off, right? (To take with me to be sure I get the right size.)

The current piece looks like it is made of plastic. But it could be nylon. Is there anything special I need to do to make sure I don't break the fitting as I'm removing it? Also, I'm guessing I should get a single barbed fitting, right?

Hopefully, this will be the last time I need to go into the crawlspace for a looooong time!! (I don't like going down in there!!)

Thanks again,
Sandie

Yes bring the fitting with you for proper sizing. And also make sure you drain the system down before you remove the pipe by shutting off the power and running a faucet.I would replace the fitting with either a galvanized barbed male adapter or a brass barbed male adapter.Use teflon tape and pipe dope on the threads of the new fitting. If its polly pipe you will need to heat the inside of it with a torch to soften the pipe. After heating the inside of the pipe simply push it onto the fitting. If its a rubber hose then just simply push it onto the fitting and double clamp it. Get yourself a nut driver for the hose clamps so you can snug them up real good.
