I would really appricieate help with this problem.
I have a submersible pump with unknown depth or age.
About a month ago I replaced the pressure switch. I woke up one morning and noticed the pump was running and not shutting off. After replacing the switch everything has been fine until now. Yesterday morning there was no water pressure and the pump would not come on. I assume the thermal switch kicked off because I flipped the breaker and the pump came back on. This time the pump never rose above 35psi. I dained bladder tank and no water came out the valve. With tank empty and fixtures on I pumped bladder back up to 38psi. My cut in is 40 and cut off is 60. Still the pressure will not go above 35-38psi.( I also replaced the gauge for accuracy) I cut of power to the pump after 45-60 seconds so I don't fry the pump. the pump maintains 35psi and plenty of GPM with fixtures and appiances on. Any ideas as to what I'm missing or should troubleshoot next.
Thanks for all the info on this forum

This sound exactly like the problem I am having...I have a post going but have not come to a comlete conclusion yet....My pump goes 0-40 psi rapidly but then takes forever to get any higher....At this point I am getting ready to call someone:mad:

I am thinking of removing the cap on a "T" on the pump supply line w/ the system drained to zero and filling it with water if need be??? I lost power due to wind right before this started happening....Maybe I lost prime???

It sounds like the pump has either pumped the well dry or the running while not pumping water nuked the impellers.

bob...

You could have a broken fitting somewhere between the discharge of the pump and your holding tank. I would take the well cap off the well and listen for any water spraying inside the casing and also check for any wet spots around the outside of the well casing and the yard.
