I have a 2†well that is approximately 82 Ft. deep with a static water level of 32 ft deep. The well has not been used in almost 20 yrs. I am installing an irrigation system and need some help getting water out of the well. My irrigation contractor has been trying to extract water with a 1 ½ hp. Centrifugal pump and can not get any water out of the well and is trying to tell me that the well is dry.

A neighbor of mine suggested a jet pump system. I would appreciate any feed back on the subject and if you agree with the jet pump I am looking for some direction as to how to install it.

Here in Florida there is an irrigation contractor on every street corner. Most of which are not pump pros.

A centrifugal pump can only lift water a total of 25 feet vertically. Since he didn't know this already, my advice would be to find someone who knows wells and pumps.

What you will need is a single pipe 2" jet, some 1" or 1-1/4" galvanized droppipe and a casing adaptor. The centrifugal pump still won't work, so you will need either a horizontal or vertical deep well jet pump. I recommend the vertical, since there is less friction loss with it.

You won't get a lot of water from this system, maybe 12 gpm or so (don't believe deep well pump curves) so set up your zones accordingly. Once you get this all hooked up, you can backpressure the pump up to 30 - 40 lbs and time what comes from the pump with a 5 gallon bucket. This is what you will have to use for the sprinklers.

Bottom left of the page shows the jet and casing adaptor. The backpressure control comes with the vertical pump only.
