Hi,
Newbie here but I've been lurking for over a year now. Since I'm over the 60 year mark, I've always wanted a higher elongated bowl toilet.

So, I found the source, and yesterday I went down and bought the Dalton. I had lots of fun installing it myself. I'm a retired math teacher, so I'm not the best at some home projects like this. However, I just love doing stuff like that. Everything works just great. Everything went together like clockwork. It even fits better than the old, old, "lowboy", round bowl Kohler I had. Because of the thinner tank, it actually sticks out less than the smaller Kohler did.

I generally like American Standard, I have one of their "rebadged" Trane A/C units and it's saving me money everyday. Also, I had always heard the Koler was an excellent brand. Just about bought the Cimmerron. Never heard of Toto till I found this site.
I just can't understand why the name Toto is not a household name like the other brands??

Anyone know???

Thanks Terry and thanks Toto, Regards, Tom :)

Congratulations! Very satisfying, isn't it, to successfully accomplish a DIY project like this?

I have also wondered why I never heard of Toto before this site -- must not market their product as much as American Standard, Kohler, etc. Don't know why...

Good job.

Glad everything went the way it was supposed to. Just one correction. The distance it projects out depends on how it is designed relative to the bolt holes on the bottom. The size of the tank has nothing to do with it. A thin tank may have more room behind it and a fat one less, but if they both use the same bowl, it will stick out the same amount.

Yep. You are correct.
Well, maybe what I'm seeing has something to do with the bowl of the Dalton being a bit more "streamlined" than the older bowl. I can see "faint" lines on the tile where the older bowl was wider, (on each side), and the Dalton bowl is back about one inch from the faint "imprint" left by the older bowl.
Also, when I measured the distance from the outermost rim of the older bowl back to the wall, it was actually a bit longer than the Dalton's. The older Kohler was a round bowl.
Knowhatimean?? Maybe this is just rationalization on my part since I'm so pleased with the Dalton........ (so far)

The elongated bowls of the Toto are very compact. 28" from front to back.

American Standards's Champion can be 2-3/8" longer at 30-3/8".
Why waste all that space in the bathroom, when you can get elongated bowls in the shorter Toto demensions.
It's not just the thin thanks of the Toto, but that the bowl is shorter too.

I'm bringing this thread back up to caution all you "fellow" Toto fans about one thing. :)

I have bragged and bragged about my Dalton so much to family and friends, that I am now considered the "toilet expert" of the family. Due to my constant promotion of Toto, my single sister-in-law has given me the honor of installing her new Dalton on my next trip to her home.

So what was supposed to be a vacation has now become work

Live and learn, Tom

Glad to report that everything went 100% excellent again.

Finished this afternoon. My sister-in-law's Toto Dalton was even easier than mine to install. She, Sandra, does have an older house, but I guess experience makes things go a bit quicker.

Here's the interesting part. You might remember my mentioning, that my other sister-in-law, Martha, who lives just across the street from Sandra, had a new American Standard Champion installed a few months ago. I can't believe it! She didn't even get MY permission. Well, after I finished here this afternoon, I went over to Martha's house to "examine" the golf ball eating machine. Now I understand why the fellow on this forum had a problem with his wife not letting him flush the Champion at night after everyone was asleep. Man, when that tower-valve-thing, used instead of a flapper, smacks down, it sure make a LOUD BAM !!! Her Champion seems to be doing the job though. No seal leaks.

Anyway, I feel great about having Sandra get the Dalton. Now, the next sister-in-law in Hermitage, wants a Toto. I think I have created a lot of work for myself. :(

Thanks again Terry. See ya when I start talking to you again! :D

Bye, Tom
