LOWE'S recommended Crane Plumbing toilet to me, so I bought it and today it got installed replacing a very old and beautiful toilet which supposedly was leaking. It appeared that the problem was a rubber washer (on the old toilet). I got rid of the good old toilet and got Crane Plumbing toilet in that cost me over $110. After plumbers installed it and tested and left. It started slightly leaking under the tank. They came back and fixed the problem. A few hours later, still today, still light outside, around 2 PM I found my bathroom under an inch of water.... the toilet has failed and started leaking just a few hours after it's installation, after just 3-4 flushes, only one person used it... Now it is leaking as a small stream. I had to shut the water valve. The plumbers came again and fixed it. Hopefully it will not leak again.

Not sure if this is a failed toilet or a failed installation...

Crane toilets suck! It's a cheap track builders toilet, should've gotten a TOTO!
TOTO's RULE!

I'm back. :-) It's been now about 1 year that my "Crane Plumbing" (Serial # 31742) toilet has been leaking. First with small stream, now with a larger stream causing ~$20 on my water/sewer bill. Called Crane Plumbing / American Standard" and after 2 attempts (during first attempt the line hung up after 15 min. of waiting) got through to tech. support and they will be sending me the replacement parts via FEDEX GROUND, which is great.

Still, next time I buy a toilet I will probably buy one of the top brands and only after I read feedback on the internet well. Buying the cheapest brand gets you a toilet with little money and if it fails it's no big deal. Lower medium brand such as mine is more money and it still fails, so perhaps either cheapest or best brand is a best buy. I know, the best brand will fail some day too, then it's just a matter of taste.

Don't think that the old line "top brands" are any better than what you are replacing. Toto is the leading manufacturer of toilets, but has not been around since forever like the well known names. You will not get a Toto in a box store at el-cheapo prices. These are quality appliances that work and that will continue to work well for many years to come so yes, you will have to pay more for them.

But, to speak a truth here, you sometimes, do not have to pay a lot to get alot. Sometimes, el cheapo is just plain good, too. Don't you agree?

Sure, I make a lot of money removing el Cheapo.
We haul them to the dump all week long.

Just adding that there is distinction between Lowe's recommending and some guy or gal at Lowe's recommending. I find that sometimes you get good advice from store staff and sometimes you don't. Especially at Lowes. They nevr have enough people on the floor. The person helping you in plumbing may be a flooring specialist. I'm sure they try their best to train all of their staff, but i find that plumbing and electrical are two very tricky topics. The obvious may not be right and even then, your mileage may vary.

I am not a fan of Am Std toilets, but this seems more like a faulty install than a toilet problem. Even the junkiest water closet might not flush well, but it shouldn't leak. Try a new plumber.
