Abandoning Basement Pipe

Hello,

I would like to abandon a pipe (clay tile) in our 1911 bungalow. The pipe is about 8' off of the main line. I will never use it again. I've actually dug up the area next to the tile, so I can get at it.

What is the best way to abandon an unused clay tile? Should I cover it with on of the soft rubber 'boots'?

It is a good idea to cap it, in case of a back up, and to prevent sewer gas from coming up.

So long as it isn't directly off the main line I break them even with the floor and jam as much cement down there as I can. Again just be sure not to get it in the used portion of line.
