I am putting in new stand up shower in bath this weekend. What is a good durable, easily repairable shower valve? Delta? Moen? Will probably get it at home depot. I've heard the plumbing supply valves are much better quality but also have heard they basically have the same "guts" as the ones at home depot.. thanks for quick replies...

mark, I called HD and the deltal model numbers start with a "T" and are 5 digits with the first two digits being "17"....they say they have many models like that. I assume the "guts" are the same. Is this the model you are referring to? thanks

I have repriared symmons before and still found delta reliable. And easy
enough for DIY to fix,if need be.Read the instructions!

Too bad you guys don't have Symmons there.

I have a Symmons Tub/shower valve. I have install many and fixed many. I will remove the thing from my house soon. The Iron in my water taxes this thing like you will not believe. They are nice on the north shore, but in the western part of the state they are nothing but trouble. I like the delta monitor. They are easy to fix and install. I worn about getting stuff from the box stores. I would open the box and check everything before you do any work I had a valve the was damaged. Nothing worse than having all your water off and finding out you need to return something.

thanks to all. this is such a great forum, but you guys know that....maybe someday I can contribute! Thanks again...

Worked in the Cape area for awhile, Moen was popular there for the plastic internals, due to Manganese/iron.
I always felt guilty doing the finish because they're so flimsy, Delta strikes me as the same.
I still have an affinity for Symmons because they're solid, the parts might corrode, but servicing is simple, parts are available easily.
One day some smart MFG's gonna make a non-corrosive/galvanic resistant valve of metal and they'll win the market.

would be nice. I have not gotten any complaints for the Delta valves and they have been installed in this part of the state for atleast the 70's.
And California will label it "could cause cancer" before it even gets out of the box.

hahahaha

Danze

What about the Danze products? Considering this for my shower makeover and like the complete line, finish, etc. Are they good?

Thanks

AJ

Thanks for the replies, but now I am curious about reliability of moen. I've had one before and changed the cartridge and seemed to be fairly easy. I appreciate the feedback.. thx
