View Full Version : Is sewage backup related to my new Toto Eco-Ultramax?

About a week and a half ago I replaced an old toilet with a new Toto Eco Ultramax. Today we had a sewage backup that required plumbers to bust into the main drain line and run a snake.

The toilet was barely used and appeared to flush beautifully. The backup wasn't a toilet clog.

We have never had trouble with drain clogs in this home but we've only lived here about a year.

Is it possible that the low-flowness of the toilet could have somehow contributed to the clog? It may be totally coincidental, but it just seems like they could be connected.

I'm having the plumbers return to install cleanouts where the sewage leaves the house. Is this something worth spending the extra $$ on if I plan to stay in the home 3 more years? Thanks!

The Eco Toto flushes with 1.28 GPF

In my home, I have
dual flush 1.6/0.9
1.1 GPF
If you average this, it's about the same.

I don't think it's the toilet.
By the way, two doors down, the neighbor with 5.0 toilets had a main line backup. I haven't.
