I am looking for some input from the pros. Likes and dislikes regarding plastic pipe cutters; scissor types and ratcheting types. Do you even use them or do you prefer a hacksaw, pvc saw, recip saw?

Any features you would like to really see incorporated into a pvc cutter?

Thanks

I'm not a pro, but I have worked a fair amount with PVC. The best cutter for me is a saber saw with a fine tooth blade. It leaves a little burr, but that's easy to remove with a knife. Never worked with Pex, so can't comment on that.

Ratchet type, I've worn 3 pair out over the last 20 years. I learned how to use them on up to 1.5" PVC and PE.

I also used a conical shaped deburing tool used for both the inside and outside with only a twist or two.

With the pair, there's nothing easier or faster with excellent results every time.

For PEX, the ridgid scissor cutter....nice and sharp, makes a smooth cut.

For PVC a ratchet type is much easier on the hands.

for pex and PVC I use these tools. the wirsbo cutter (green) is used the most. for 1.5" and up I like to use a sawzall with a wide blade, it helps make a straighter cut

Do you sharpen the blades on the cutters or do you just buy a new blade or a new cutter?

Thanks for your comments

One last thing, what about springs in the scissor type cutters? Is the spring that keeps the blade away from the jaw helpful or is it better not to have a spring?
