My water was not coming out all the way,so I bought a repair kit for the diverter and changes the parts over and put it back togehther and the water flowed correctly, the problem I am having is the knob is lose and ahen I tighten the knob it becomes to hard to turn and will not let the diverter work correctly.
If this makes sense, does anybody now what I have done wrong?

Not sure what you have but some makes have a spacer ring or gasket and if you missing this and tighten the handle it may cause it to be stiff.
Do you have a picture or make and model?

It's also a good idea to grease the stem threads with plumber's grease whenever you rebuild a shower stem.

the white plastic threaded part under the chrome was not threaded all the way in,working okay know, thanks for the replys
