Hello,
I recently purchased a town home that has the water heater in the attic. I thought it was strange, but the builder is reputable so I didn't think anything of it. Now, I'd like to get a water softener. Normally, I've seen softeners sit right next to the water heater, but I don't think this is possible in my situation. Hauling 40lb bags of salt up a ladder in the attic doesn't sound fun. So I guess my question is, can a softener sit elsewhere in the house? Is it feasible for the softener to sit in the room below the attic? Any potential problems?
Alternatively, could it sit in the garage(doesn't freeze) and connect somewhere by the main water valve?
Thanks.
