No Hot Water from Shower

We have three showers in the house and the only downstairs shower is only producing cold water. We have only one knob to adjust the water temperature and even though we turn it all the way, there's no change. I've tried running the water for minutes on end but still no change. The shower upstairs, which is right above the "troubled" shower is working just fine.

Any clues as to what the problem is?

It sounds like the valve needs to be rebuilt. Either with a new cartridge or springs and washers, depending on the brand. How old is the house? What brand is the faucet? Pictures help a lot.

Here are a couple pictures I just took. I also checked the sink faucet and there is no hot water there either--it gets lukewarm and that's about it. The sink is a Price Pfister but the shower didn't have a brand on it.

oh and i think the house was built within the past 6 years here in CA.

I'm assuming you have only one water heater. If all the other fixtures are getting the proper amount of hot water, cold water is probably mixing with the hot near that bathroom. Is the laundry near the bathroom? Sometimes a mixing valve on the washer will pass cold water back into the hot line making it lukewarm.

Without being there it's hard to say what's going on. if there is a second water heater serving that bathroom it could be a heater problem.

the laundry room is upstairs unlike the problem bathroom. and yes, we have only one water heater in the garage. the problem doesn't exist anywhere except for that bathroom. it is the nearest area to the water heater that has water.

i've been here since november, however, my husband has been here for a couple years. funny because we just found out we had a problem back in june when my parents visited and used the bathroom. we never use the shower and when we use the sink it never occured to us that the hot water wasn't working.

wow. you just made me realize how lame we sound. hahaha.
