Hi.

My kitchen faucet is broken. It needs to be replaced. It has a continous drip that won't stop, but the handle is broken and is about to fall off, I think that's why it's dripping steadily.

I'm a very handy girl. I've done all sorts of stuff around the house, but I have never changed a faucet before, and I am worried that I will do something to mess it up. My house has flooded in the past because of a broken pipe (nobody was home) and I don't want to go thru that drama again.

How hard is it to change out just the faucet? Do you think someone that's handy with tools would be able to figure it out?

It seems like it but.....about 25 years ago I had to replace a bunch of brand new carpeting because my uncle, who was "handy with tools" used the wrong type of connection at the angle stop valve.

I'd say just do it. That's how we learn.....right?

I'd rate installing a deck faucet about 1 to 3 difficulty out of 10. As hj said, the difficult part will be removing the old faucet, but you can do it with enough patience and time. Just be sure to to keep one wrench on the shut-off valve and one wrench on the supply nut when you are disconnecting the water supplies so that you can be sure that you don't cause a leak at the valve or in the piping behind the wall due to twisting force on the valve. There's plenty of guides on how to do it on the net, and if you do run into trouble trying to get the faucet out because it's too difficult to reach or too rusted to remove, then call in a pro.

What kind of faucet is it?

You can probably fix the leak and replace the broken handle without having to replace the faucet. It will be easier and less expensive than replacing the whole thing.

Post a pic if you can.
