Hello,

If I understand it correctly, I need to use barrier pex with my cast iron boiler and radiators. From what I have read, barrier PEX is sensitive to UV and needs to be protected from direct contact with sunlight.

The problem is that I need to run pex across an unprotected basement wall before it goes into the studded walls. The room has a small window at the top (2'x3') that I keep a curtain on... How stringent is the UV requirement? Is there a sheathing that I can buy to protect the PEX?

Thanks,
Steve

Or you could do what we do with PVC outdoors... paint it.

Painting PEX

Painting it is a cool thought. I know the inspector hates the fact that PEX can look messy. I'm picturing unique colors for each run. Messy by organized.

Is there any type of paint that is recommended?

Thanks.

I seem to remember that UV is filtered by normal window glass.

Like he said just use the pipe insulation it works great and looks more professional. The wrong paint can damage the pipe.
