Plumbing & Subfloor Preparation

We are planning to replace the linoleum of the bathroom with porcelain tiles.
You can always here the flushing noise and music/tv on the 2nd floor bathroom when your downstairs.

With regards to the subfloor preparation...

Which has a better sound isolation property?
A. Thick cement board and thin plywood subfloor
B. Thin cement board and thick plywood subloor

A or B or if there is a better alternative, please do tell

and you can add a layer of cork, 4mm or 6mm, made for this. Sound insulation, under tiles.

the plumbing noise is coming from the pipes in the ceiling and wall, nothing you do with the subfloor will remedy it. The only solution is to get insulation around the piping. You can probrobly get insulation under the piping in the ceiling by removing the subfloor above.

Many houses are not designed to support a tiled floor properly. The check the deflection specs and get help with tiling, www.johnbridge.com. Normally, more ply is better for between joist deflection, but it will do nothing substantial for along the joist deflection. Both must be L/360 or better for a ceramic tile to survive as long as you want it. Also, make sure to follow instructions about thinset under cbu, if you decide to use it.
