Putty anyone? lol. Ok, I got a question, about the hose on the kitchen sink. You know that little silver thing that rests on the sink? It looks like a cup? The base to it? Well, it came loose and is spinning around, and water is flowing down it sometimes to underneath the sink. Now, we can't have that, can we. I got out plumbers' putty but, I just wanted to make sure, that I am using the right stuff to fix it, because, on the container it says, it will not harden. Shouldn't I want it to be hard? So, it stays in place?

I am also working with 9 fingers today. I broke my baby one today, with a hammer fixing one of the landscaping timbers that rotted out. But, it looks great, not my finger though. It also broke my nail. I am more upset over that than the finger, lol.

I read that, not on granite etc, but, mine is stainless steel, so that is alright. I don't understand why they put on it, it won't be hard, because, I am standing there, wondering, how the sam hell, it would stay in place. I was even checking out the facet, around the base of the facet, it is a black strip or something. So, I went back to the blackboard, back down to the drawers where there are plumbing things, and couldn't find anything like a black strip. So, I guess, I will with 9 fingers stick that putty down, lol. Thank you I much appreciate this, because, I wanted it to be right. Just one of the annoyances of mine.

Got another question. The cup part is connected to the hose, and it just slides around on the sink, but, won't lift up so I can put putty under it. I got more putty on my 9 remaining fingers than, there; it slides down under the hole. How would you guys do this? Can I use superglue? I am really good with that stuff, lol.

Is there a nut on the bottom of this hose retainer cup (it could be plastic)? If so, you need to tighten that. If it is a spring fit, It can be a little tricky to get out. You'd make a ribbon of the putty, wrap it around the shaft of the thing, using enough to make some of it squeeze out when you push it back in place. If it doesn't have a nut to tighten, at least the putty will try to seal it a little bit.

You know how you put on the bottom of your post, that you are not a pro? Well, I could NEVER be. Maybe, I am thinking this Plumbers putty is old? It rolls nicely, like play do, and, I do know my play do, lol; but, it ONLY sticks on my fingers. Which by the way is miserable to get off.

Is this supposed to stick? I even tried wetting it alittle, lol, I would probably get smacked for that one, lol, but, it does not stay on the metal sink. I push it and then, it rolls down the hole, or comes back on my fingers.

Come to think of it, that dish rag wrapped around the hose thing, did a nice job, lol.

But, could the plumbers putty out live its usefulness? Maybe, I need new, what do you think? If that is the way it is supposed to be, my God, you plumbers got the patience of a saint; and, I will go back to wrapping the hose up on the bottom and call it good.

I better things to do, like my pictures I just took today, of some really neat wildlife, while I am supposed to be working. ;)

The more putty warms, the softer it gets...
That is why you knead it before you use it...
As was said, lie down under the cabinet and reach up - there will be a nut that tightens against the bottom of the sink to hold the hose escutcheon in place....
You can loosen it to place putty under it or just tighten it down to stop the thing from sliding around...
Your choice...
(PS I can identify with you about your hand - Thurs of last week I put a nasty gash in the back of my hand - it was cool looking at the two tendons I exposed, but it is really sore now...LOL)

Ta-Da! Did it, thank you, the bottom part unscrewed enough for me to lift it up, and then, I slid some putty under it, then, sat it back down, and tightened it back up. Wola... lol. Boy, that stuff made my hands dry. It dries your hands out. But, another thing fixed. Good thing for health insurance. :D

That sounded painful...

What I was trying to do was remove a rotten timber, it was being eaten by ants. I was dealing with a gas meter on one side, tall Iris's on the other, and, whoever built this put a very long spike through it. The spike was in there, and I eventually had to saw it, then bend it, saw it, bend it until, it snapped off. Well, I hit my finger on the last whack. Boy, talk about pain. I have a little friend who lives next door, I call him Taz, short for his real name, Tazmania Devil, lol, who is always by my side. He told me, to hit the nail, Cookie... lol.

I was laughing even though I was bleeding.

It feels good to accomplish something. But, I am soooo glad, I have health insurance, lol.

Mark, just curious, what did they do for you? Did you have to have surgery? I did what you did a few years ago, I was using a trowel, to scrap up a wooden floor in the bath, it was Teak, and, I missed the floor but, found my hand and ripped it open and exposed the stuff inside, lol. Well, it was bleeding so badly, I ugh, sewed in a few stitches until, I got to the doctors who was closer than the hospital at the time. That was really bad. I still have a scar from my sewing skills, and there's. Right across the top of my hand. It is trowel shaped. lol.

This time, I smashed the finger, broke the knuckle. It already hurts, it hurt immediately. lol. I am just thankful, it wasn't the gas meter. I am bummed, that I broke my nail. I was told, I will never play the piccolo.

nails

I was holding a board for a carpenter to nail using a portable gas powered nailer. He either had a defective interlock, or had disabled it because when he went to aim it the gun discharged. He asked, "Where did the nail go?" I told him, "Right here" and held up my hand. It had gone through my hand between the thumb and finger.

Oh, my God. You poor soul.
My brother in law was helping me with the camp roof a couple of summers ago, and was using one of those nail guns, my sister and I ran like hell, lol. Very scary looking device. I couldn't imagine how you must had felt. Wow.
