Problem with intake leak on shallow well jet pump

Hello,

My husband just replaced the bell reducer on the suction portion of the pump. It had been leaking yesterday and he had replaced it with a metal bell reducer but it still leaked. He went out today and bought a PVC one and it still leaks. He used teflon tape on the threads. He is going to try pipe dope next, are there any other suggestions?

check to make sure there is no damage on the threads, or any of the fittings are cracked or damaged.
