I am replacing an end drained tub with a side drain jetted tub. The drain could be placed on the wall side or the room side. If near the outside wall, the distance to the inside of the wall stud would be 7" from the overflow, and 13" from the tub drain. Can the new trap go under the overflow, or do I need to change the tub around to drain to the room side?

The runs from the tub to the stack increase to 45" (room side) or 48" (wall side) drain. Looks like a change to 2" drain pipe is needed? A new 2" stack santee requiered? oh dear.

I believe that I read in one thread that the tub's overflow and drain pipe can still be 1.5, and the trap should be 2", to match the drain pipe to stack. Does the adapter 2" to 1.5 go between the trap and below the tub drain tee?

Yes reduce between the trap inlet and tee on tub.

Can the tub be positioned such that the drain is on the wall side, the overflow pipe (and the trap below) would be 7" from the outside wall? Or do I need to rotate the tub so that the drain is toward the center of the room away from the wall?

Convenience would suggest putting the drain and overflow on the room side, so you do not have to get into the tub to open and close the drain.
