Hello all,

I encountered a hot-water tank stronger than 4 men. 2 guys on an 18" pipe wrench, 2 guys holding the tank from spinning, and we could not get one of the threaded male adapters out from tht top of the tank!

Any ideas?

I would like to get it out of there.

Thanks,
Molo

Things you can try: Heating it, soaking it in PB blaster overnite, using a cheater bar.

I had to use a 24" wrench on a w.h. today, to get the factory dielectrics nipples off. Usually a 12 or 14 is all that's needed. But they were on there good.

There is a slight leak there. I'm hoping to get the nipple out and put a new one in that won't leak. Does anyone know if this will work?

TIA,
Molo

Wrap it several times with teflon tape. If the internal threads are not messed up that should do it. Let us know when you finally get that nipple out and what technique worked for you.

Put a 2 foot cheater bar on that 18" or get a 24" and a cheater bar.

I had a factory installed, brass drain valve on a brand new BTR 250 (100 gal comm htr) that took me over an hour to remove yesterday. I must say, that the hacksaw blade and a 6in1 did a much better job than any pipe wrench 6"-24", crescent 8"-15", channelock or vice grip could at removing that miserable POS.

The largest piece of that drain valve is now smaller than one's pinky nail. Sure did kick my @ss for a while, as a nipple extractor would not fit inside the threaded portion.
