Use tub & shower faucet for shower only

I'm replacing my bathtub and shower with a shower alcove (no tub). If I buy a tub & shower faucet set, can I install it without using the tub spout? I know there are shower only faucets, but I am finding better deals on the sets that include the tub spouts. Can't I just plug the outlet for the tub spout on the valve, and not install the spout on my shower wall? Thanks!

Make sure you increase the waste from the 1-1/2" from the tub to 2" for the shower
