A friend of mine mentioned that his son was going to a plumbing apprenticeship comittee interview this week and wasn't sure how to dress. Is a suit and tie too formal? I argued that it's highly competitive and looks matter, but they fear that looking "too" professional will make the comittee think that you don't know what you're in for as an apprentice and will hesitate the first time they hand you a shovel or tell you to clean out a clogged sewer pipe. What do you pros think?

a suit and tie is going waaay overboard for plumbing...

just dress good so they can know what to expect

perhaps some dockers, and a nice shirt.....something
like you would wear out on a date ....

at least you will show that you can basically dress yourself up ok.....
------------------------------------------------------

its hard to believe but I have had dumbasses
walk into my office to apply for a job before
with literally half their ass hanging out of their soiled pants....

and they looked like they had not shaved or bathed in a
month... wanting $25 per hour

If they would have come in with a suit and tie,
I would have known they were still wet behind the ears,,,,

but when they come in dressed like crap and acting like

"what you see is what you are gonna get"

that is much, much worse...

so....tell him to clean up and just be yourself,

but dont show butt-crack......on the first date..

New boots, new work pants, oxford shirt.

Look like you work.

Thigh high boots with stilettos. They don't have to be steel toed however.

It wouldn't make any difference. You would not look good in them anyway.
