I noticed the gauge on my holding tank was low though the water pressure throughtout the house seems normal. I recharged the tank by draining and pumping in 28psi ( had been running a 30/50 cycle). Still the gauge only reads about 19 and the new cycle is 14/19. Could this be a bad gauge? I held the contacts on the pressure switch (square d) and after awhile water started pouring out from the pipe underneath the switch it eventually stopped what does this mean? I also notice some bubbles in the filter housing when the water is running and the filter was particularily dirty and full of more sediment than usual. Is any of this related?

Themak,
you gauge is shot. The reason why you water came shooting out is because the pressure relief valve opened up.The pump builds enough pressure to shut the pump off. The gauge is no good.

This is interesting, the pressure relief valve shuts the pump off? I'd be willing to bet the pump shut off because themak stopped holding the contacts closed.

Sonny, why don't you go back and edit it so it reads correctly...

[In spite of the low reading on the guage,] The pump [obviously] builds enough pressure to shut the pump off [or you would not be able to report the 14/19 cycle]. The gauge is no good.

Sammy had it correct, Rancher!

Well of course it builds enough pressure to shut the pump off. Oh..ok rancher maybe i should have said the pump builds enough pressure to shut itself off. Or hows this, the pump builds enough pressure to shut the switch off. Hows that saddlebags?
