I am installing a new sink and would like to know if it is code (per 2003 IPC)
to us a fernco instead of a repair coupling to add a tee to an existing 3 " line? I am wanting to add a 3" w/ 2" tee with a 2" to 1 1/2" reducer to then attach to the sink. At first a saddle tee looked promising until I looked at the other threads. My plan is to cement the bottom of the tee to the existing stub, cement a short 3 " piece to the top of the tee, then use the fernco to sew it up.

Thank you in advance for any advice/information!

Use a banded coupling rather than the Fernco. A Fernco is not supposed to be used above ground. The banded coupler is similar to a Fernco, but it has a stainless steel band the full length of the sleeve instead of just the two clamps on a Fernco.

Thanks Gary! Do they sell those a the "Big Box" outlets or do I need to hit my plumbers supply?

Can't say for sure, but Big Boxes should have them.
