Just curious if any of the pros avoid particular brands of compressions valves due to problems? I've put compressions on lots of times without a hitch but got my butt kicked today by a couple of the cheaper valves sold at the big box stores (not Brasscraft). Weeping wouldn't stop unless you went gorilla tight with them. I'm talking almost a turn and a half and one still dripped slightly. I stubbed out enough to cut the pipe behind the ferrell and replace with the ones I usually use. No issues with them.

Either you have no problems or one after the other. This is a "one after the other week" for me. One of the compressions I replaced started to weep yesterday so I removed it and found a small indentation in the pipe right where the ferrule seats. Just my luck. I took care of it by cutting the pipe back again. Anyway I bought a bag of 5/8" compression sleeves to replace the one I removed but they seem to be a hair bigger than the sleeves that come with the valves. A bit loose on the pipe. After getting the nut finger tight I had to turn it another 3/4 to get it to bit the pipe. That's a lot more than usual from what I've seen with compressions. Another half turn and it all seems good. No leaks. Is that normal though? Is it ok to use ferrules other than the ones that came with the valves. The valve blowing off is crossing my mind.
