I have a summer home that is on septic. What is the best way to maintain the system since we are not there very often in the Fall, Winter and Spring.

I am not one for additives but in this case I would add a box of rid X bacteria when you open up for the summer, every year. Then have it pumped every 3 years.

Also, keep an eye on any nearby trees or heavy foilage that seem to have really grown since last year. Your system's seasonal dormancy can be good for the dry well or drain field, but any ever-increasing root systems that might be invading it are not.
