Anyone have tips on unscrewing old galvanized water pipes at the joint? Should I spray the joint with penetrating oil and wait a few hours or use a heat gun? The joints may be a little rusty but do not seem really bad. Or is it easier to rent a die and create new threads?

pipe

1. heat the joint with a torch.
2. If the pipe is rusty, you will not be able to rethread it with a die, so do not cut the threads off the pipe.
