Fitting selection - on its back.

I hope I can convey this with words, and not need drawings or pictures.

The basic question is whether a sanitary tee can be used on its back when the side (branch) is being used for the vent connection, and the fixture being drained is the highest connection. I suspect not, but I assume I can use a wye on its back with a 1/8 bend to make the connection.

I'm replacing a shower unit with a larger one, and looking to correct the current flat vent setup. I have limited (but sufficient) vertical drop from the vent connection in the wall (adjacent to the shower) to the stack across the room. This 2" line only serves the shower.

Our inspectors let us use a tee on it's back for venting. Call your local inspector.

Ours don't. Check with your local inspector. He is the final arbiter regardless of what we tell you.

The combination you described is the only way our inspectors allow a vertical connection in DWV.
